Discover the National Arboretum Canberra as you take a forty-minute guided bus 'Discovery Tour' around the Arboretum, or join our Indigenous Visitor Services Officer for one of our immersive cultural tours.     Ngala tour viewing stop

    Take a 40 minute guided bus tour with our friendly guides and learn the stories of the forests and enjoy two viewing stops with spectacular photo opportunities. Wed – Sun (& Public holidays) Departs: 1.30pm Bookings: Book up to two weeks in advance online at Sticky Tickets or at the Information Desk in the Village Centre. Bookings close 50min prior to departure. Suitable for all ages. *Babies 12 months and under travel free on laps. Book a private family tour for up to eight people* or join a public tour. *Cost for sole use private family tour can take from one to eight people at the same flat rate. Terms and Conditions

  • Ngala Tours - Walk on Country Tour

    Join our Indigenous Visitor Services Officer for a guided walk and yarn around the Arboretum's Bush Tucker Garden and Southern Tablelands Ecosystems Park where you will see native plants that are used for medicinal, culinary and Cultural use. This walk will bring the landscape to life allowing you to gain a deeper respect for Aboriginal Traditions and Culture. Be guided on the use of stones axes, coolamons, skins and clapsticks with a hands on artefact display and participate in traditional ochre use. Hear why Caring for Country is vital and continues to play a significant role in Culture today. Included in the tour is a Ngala Tours cotton drawstring Dilly Bag that contains samples of food such as mountain pepper flatbread, using flavours and ingredients from the Australian bush. These immersive and enjoyable tours are a relaxing way to learn about Aboriginal Culture in a beautiful bush setting.   • Ngala Tours - Weaving for Wellbeing

    Join Wiradjuri fibre artist Jessika Spencer, Indigenous Education Officer at the National Arboretum Canberra, in a gentle introduction to Aboriginal weaving. In this hands-on workshop, you will learn about both contemporary and traditional weaving in the serenity of the National Arboretum Canberra landscape. Part indoors, part outdoors, the session will be split into a weaving element where we will create a woven piece of art (whether that be a basket, coolamon, dillybag or jewellery adornment) and a walkthrough of the Mununja Butterfly Garden to learn which native plants you are able to resource collect and process for weaving. These intimate sessions are tailored and suitable for beginners, intermediate and expert weavers. All weaving materials are provided. You will also receive a Ngala Tours cotton draw string dilly bag containing 600ml water and bush tucker samples to enjoy.

    Join our Indigenous Visitor Services Officer for a tour that combines the cultural and scenic sites within the National Arboretum Canberra and also includes visiting the only Aboriginal owned Art Gallery in Canberra. The tour starts with a guided walk of the Southern Tablelands Ecosystems Park and the Bush Tucker Garden. Learn about local native plants used for medicinal, culinary, and cultural uses. Learn how Aboriginal Australians relied on bush plants for food, trade, shelter, ceremony and warmth and used landmarks and landscape for survival. Hear why caring for country is vital and plays a continual significant role in culture today. Board the bus and visit our neighbour, the Burrunju Aboriginal Art Gallery which features artworks, artefacts and jewellery. Burrunju Aboriginal Corporation was established in 2006 to provide local Aboriginal people with an opportunity to realise their dream of self-determination by providing an avenue to sell art. You will receive a Ngala Tours Dilly Bag which includes snacks infused with flavours inspired by the Australian bush.
