Hayes Family Wines is a small-scale, family owned and run wine producer located in Stone Well in the heart of the Barossa Valley. Our multi-generation vineyards have an enviable track record of producing some of the region’s finest wines. Our wines are made with thought, using organic (our Estate Vineyard and Winery are Certified Organic), sustainable and traditional low-intervention practices, whilst embracing innovation. We have an uncompromising focus on producing the best wines possible; wines that display fruit purity, balance and ageability. For visitors who really wish to experience Hayes Family Wines, we offer a unique range of bookable 'behind the scenes' experiences that will see you enjoying activities as diverse as walking through our vineyard, guided tastings with our winemaker, sampling from special barrels or blending your own tawny port to take home. All experiences are aimed at being fun and informative, pitched at your group’s specific knowledge level.   The Hayes Family Wines Cellar door is a great place to visit, nestled amongst the vines of our Certified Organic Stone Well Vineyard on Mattiske Road in the central Barossa Valley. There is no better place to get to know us and our wines. But perhaps there is. Enjoy that tasting, of our full range of Estate wines with Andrew Seppelt, our Winemaker. This experience offers just a little more, the opportunity to hear about the specifics of our Certified Organic Estate vineyard and wines and importantly the people behind those wines. • Winemaker Barrel Tasting

  

  Can you spot a classic wine in the making? Our Winemaker Barrel Tasting is a unique experience where visitors explore the world of ‘unfinished’ wines together with winemaker, Andrew Seppelt. Andrew will explain how wines transform in barrel and what characters we should expect in a particular wine based on its fruit origin, oak origin or barrel type? He will also uncover what is required to make the very best single barrel or reserve wines. Samples will be taken from select barrels throughout the tour, allowing visitors to taste their way through some special wines and to illustrate the various points highlighted. Compare notes with others and have all your winemaking questions answered! To conclude the experience, we return to the cellar door where you’ll be invited to relax and taste through a selection of finished, bottled Hayes Family Wines. • Tawny Blending Experience`

  

  Barossa Tawny is a unique wine; a wine crafted from premium parcels of very ripe Grenache, Shiraz and Mataro grapes, which is fortified with spirit and then rested for 5, 10, or even 50 years or more in barrel. The end result is a wine of genuine character, as individual as the red wines that have made the Barossa region famous. This Blending Experience reveals how our Barossa Tawny is made, from vineyard to bottle. Winemaker, Andrew Seppelt, will explain what he is looking for in the component wines of various ages and how they each contribute to the final blended wine. Samples will be tasted from select barrels, ranging from 1 to 50 years in age, giving visitors a most delicious insight into Barossa Tawny! Andrew will then show you how to make your very own blend to take home and enjoy. Available Thursday and Friday, all year round

• Old Vines to Great Wines

  

  Behind all great wines there’s a story and it starts in the vineyard! Old Vines to Great Wines is a guided walking tour of our Certified Organic Estate Vineyard that surrounds the cellar door. Meander through our old vines and learn about the synergies that exist between ancient soils, organically farmed vines, pristine fruit and the finished wines. Explore our individual vineyard blocks growing old clone Shiraz, Grenache, Mataro and Grenache Blanc, stopping along the way to sample wines from several vintages that originate from select vineyard blocks. Later on we walk through our winery, allowing visitors to briefly experience the sights and sounds of a small working winery. To conclude, we return to the cellar door where you’ll be invited to relax and taste through a selection of Hayes Family Wines. Available 10 am Friday - Sunday (other days on request), all year round, weather permitted

• Ultimate Hayes Family Wines Experience

  

  Join us for a trip down the dirt roads and behind the locked gates on Hayes Family Wines secret 'Single Vineyard' touring route. No signs, no maps, just a guided tour to the hidden Hayes Family Wines special sites, those that grow our very best Grenache, Shiraz and Mataro. Choose your variety or discover them all. The 'road trip' begins in the winery, where our winemaker, Andrew Seppelt will guide you through a barrel tasting of current vintage wines. Then, armed with a selection of provisions for the journey, it is time for a picturesque road-trip of the Barossa. You will experience first-hand the special sites, people and history that makes these vineyards so unique. Visiting our vineyards in Stone Well, Koonunga and Ebenezer, you will see the soil, the vines, and taste the finished wines from each site. After gaining a true appreciation for the diversity of each location, you will head to Vintners for a special lunch or dinner with matched wines. Vintners is our special place, enjoy lunch or dinner hosted by Andrew or Brett. Finally, take a lasting memory home with you with a six-bottle collection of our Single Vineyard wines.
