The Merrijig Campdraft Association will hold their Annual Campdraft on the 24 and 25 November at ‘McCormack Park’ Merrijig. If you are interested in horses or just want some free entertainment in a beautiful setting; come and have a look. Competition starts at 7:00am both days and spectators are invited to come and watch riders of all ages and from all over Australia compete, as well as many local competitors. The aim of campdrafting is to cut a beast from a small herd of cattle in the camp, the rider moves their horse amongst the cattle quietly and brings their selected beast to the front of the yard. The rider will then demonstrate to the judge they have control of that beast by preventing it returning to the herd. The rider then calls for the gate to be opened. Once on the arena the campdrafter is working against the clock – they have 40 seconds to guide the beast around two pegs in a figure eight pattern and then drive the beast between the final two pegs ‘ the gate’. The best combination of control of the beast, horsemanship and speed and completing the course scores the highest points....
