A magical day with the dolphins you'll never forget. Just 40 minutes south of Perth, organised tours will take you for a swim with wild dolphins in the sheltered waters of Rockingham and neighbouring Shoalwater Islands Marine Park. Swimming with these intelligent and playful creatures in their natural environment is a truly magical day you’ll never forget. The best time to experience this unique encounter is between September and May to coincide with the tour season. Please note; - Dolphin tours must be pre-booked via the tour operator. - Ferries and cruise tours to Penguin Island operate between 10am and 3pm (September to June). - All tours by boat are subject to weather conditions - The dolphins are generally very consistent in their habits and behaviours. However, as they are wild animals, sightings and interactions are not 100% guaranteed. See the tour operators’ terms and conditions for details....
Get an early start, following the Kwinana Freeway south from Perth to join a morning dolphin swim tour from Rockingham jetty. Tours operate daily from September to early June, and can last anything from three to six hours, depending on dolphin activity and sightings on the day. A light lunch and refreshments are included.
Whether you’re back ashore in time for lunch or afternoon tea, there are plenty of waterfront cafes and restaurants just a short walk from the jetty. If you get back to shore early, you can take a short drive south and hop on a five-minute ferry ride or a 45-minute wildlife cruise to explore neighbouring Shoalwater Islands Marine Park – the home of Western Australia’s largest colony of little penguins, as well as rare Australian sea lions and seabirds. Return to Rockingham for the 40-minute journey back to Perth, following Patterson Road and Thomas Road to join the Kwinana Freeway heading north.
