After enjoying a morning stroll on Keswick Island, return to Mackay and head to Mackay’s cable wake board park, Wake House Australia. Grip the cable handle and soar across a man-made lake on a wake board or knee board, as a cable and pulley system launches you around the water park. There is a number of options ranging for those that are who prefer to take it easy and to those that enjoy flying high over a range of jumps and obstacles. Spend the evening in Mackay’s central business district and experience a vibrant nightlife at a selection of swanky bars, funky nightclubs and finish off with a nightcap at a rooftop bar overlooking the Pioneer River.
Drive into the Pioneer Valley, and choose your morning adventure. Take a jet ski to Kinchant Dam or drop a line in one of the three dams in the Pioneer Valley. You are sure to reel in a big one! Continue onto Finch Hatton Gorge and choose from one of the award-winning adventure activities on offer in this rainforest paradise.
Continuing on from the dam continue travelling through the Pioneer Valley and enjoy the rural drive past paddocks of sugar cane. Another great stop along the way is the Pinnacle Hotel. This hotel has been made famous over the past 87 years by the legendary, hearty, home made Pinnacle pie.
Continue onto Finch Hatton Gorge and walk the rainforest tracks to Araluen Cascades and Wheel of Fire waterfalls and swim in clear rock pools as water cascades over and around large boulders upstream. Zipline through the rainforest canopy 25 metres above the ground, for an exhilarating close encounter with Finch Hatton's unique flora and fruitbats hanging nearby. Take in the sights, smells and sounds of this slice of verdant paradise as you fly through the air from the safety of your harness! You can spend the evening relaxing in cabins at Finch Hatton or continue travelling along Mackay-Eungella Road to head up to Eungella where there are a number of camping grounds, as well as mountain retreats where you can truly sleep amongst nature with the beautiful landscape of Eungella as your backdrop!
Spend today exploring the rainforest and town of Eungella, with more than 20 kilometres of walking tracks throughout Eungella National Park waiting to be explored! For the experienced climber, the 56 kilometre Mackay Great Highlands Walk can be accessed here, where dramatic cliffs, rugged peaks, spires and sensational highland views can be experienced. Make sure you venture to the variety of viewing platforms at Broken River for a chance to see the native Platypus gliding through the water! After a morning of bush walking and platypus spotting, enjoy lunch at a local cafe or restaurant overlooking the mist-shrouded peaks of the Pioneer Valley. Once heading back into town turn off the Mackay-Eungella Road at Gargett heading towards Eton for more fast-paced activities to participate in.
Start the afternoon driving back to Mackay's outer suburb of Walkerston and continue past Eton, to enjoy the warm hospitality of a rural farm stay. Spend the afternoon on a four wheel drive tour, or explore the hinterland on horseback, for the chance to see koala bears, frill-neck lizards and dingos!
