Fogg Dam Conservation Reserve, approximately 70 kilometres east of Darwin along the Arnhem Highway, is one of the few wetland systems that is accessible year-round. Boardwalks take you through the different landscapes to observation platforms to view the large number of resident wading birds. The best time to really experience the birdlife at this important wildlife refuge is from the end of March until the start of October. Choose from two different walks, which enable you to really explore the wetland area without getting your feet wet. Don't forget your camera to capture the view from lookouts and shaded viewing platforms. Take in the diversity of the landscape as you stroll the easy-graded paths that move from shady forests of paperbark into the floodplain area. The Pandanus Lookout walk offers wonderful views of the dam and is especially recommended for sunset or sunrise picnics. Drive across the dam wall, stopping to appreciate the wetlands from the bird hides, and continue to the far side for elevated views from Pandanus Lookout. The Adelaide River catchment is one of several connected catchments that make up the Top End wetlands and are of international importance due to their beauty, natural systems and cultural significance....
