Arid Recovery is an ecosystem restoration initiative based in the South Australian outback and dedicated to the recovery of arid environments. We conserve threatened native species including bilbies and burrowing bettongs within a 123 square km reserve that is fenced to keep out feral cats, rabbits and foxes. You can join us for a tag-along tour with one of our conservation scientists to explore the reserve, learn about our research, watch the beautiful desert sunset and then spotlight for a chance to see rare native animals....

Arid Recovery has opened its arid ecosystem restoration project to guided tag-a-long interpretive sunset tours where members of the public can experience how vibrant and widely inhabited Australia's outback was before European settlement and before the introduction of pastoralism and feral animals. A unique exclusion fence protects the reserve inside of which cats, foxes and rabbits have been removed. Visitors will see reintroduced locally extinct species in their natural habitat and will gain an understanding of the importance of these creatures in the ecosystem. Visitors will tag-a-long with a guide to watch the sunset from a spectacular dune lookout while discussing the latest conservation research happening at Arid Recovery. After dark, the guide will take guests spotlighting to the nocturnal hide for a chance to see bilbies, bettongs and bandicoots. Being a natural environment, we cannot guarantee what you will see, but we can guarantee a unique and moving experience. Operates on Wednesdays & Fridays between April and October. Start times vary according to sunset times. Please book through the website or call (08) 8671 2402 for more information.
