The 10 kilometre 'Kapunda Heritage Trail' meanders past the town's historic buildings, churches and remnants of previous lifestyles. Feel the rich history and character that shaped Kapunda, Australia's oldest commercial copper mining town (1844) and home of Sir Sidney Kidman 'The Cattle King'. (1870 - 1921) Stop at the historic mine site and follow the walking trail past the Steel Horse Statue, Whim, Open Cut Mine and Chimney. Drive past Sir Sidney's Kidman's former home "Eringa", officially used as the Kapunda High School since 1922. During the boom period between the 1840s - 1870s, the town flourished, which developed strong, independent businesses and manufacturing. Visit the Museum (renowned as one of Australia's finest folk museums). Open everyday from 1pm to 4pm. Kapunda is a friendly country ideally situated between the Clare and Barossa Valleys. The town exudes a pleasant appeal, which, in part, emanates from the ornate, well-preserved, main precinct buildings. Stay and have lunch at one of the historic hotels, bakeries or cafe's. Local accommodation and most community services are available also. Kapunda is an RV friendly town. Pick up a Heritage Trail map from the Kapunda Visitor Information Centre situated in the Main Street....
