Dating back into the 1800's, town lots were first sold at Wilton in 1844, and the Church of England received two acres for a church, school and parsonage in 1866. With the introduction of coal mining in the district, miner’s homes were built in the village. More recently, growth in the area has boomed with major development construction and young families moving in. Wilton is in close proximity to the city with a leisurely one hour drive. Attractions close by including the Cordeaux Dam, remarkable for its Egyptian inspired architecture and leafy picnic grounds and St Mary’s Towers Retreat Centre. The village of Douglas Park is a fine example of what living in Wollondilly is all about. So close to the city yet far enough to retain a rural environment. The town is named after Dr H.G. Douglass, an eminent man in his time, serving as a clerk of the Legislative council and later as an elected member. Upon entering Douglas Park, visitors will be greeted with a true country village. One of the must-see attractions is St Mary’s Towers Monastery, one of the oldest complexes of heritage buildings in the Shire. St Mary’s Towers offers group tour visitations by arrangement. The Bathhouse Douglas Park is a Palms Springs inspired wellness spa retreat; the perfect place to relax. The best way to admire the rugged beauty of the district is taking a drive between Douglas Park and Appin. The open road will take you over the Nepean River, a popular local swimming, canoeing and picnic spot....
