Sapphire Coastal Adventures (formerly known as Merimbula Marina) has operated boat-based tours from the beautiful Sapphire Coast for over 17 years. They are passionate about whales, dolphins, seals and the ocean and marine environment. Sapphire Coastal Adventures is committed to helping to educate people about the threats that the ocean faces in today’s world. Their hope and prayer are that by helping people connect with the ocean and its amazing diversity, they may take actions to preserve and protect it. Tours depart from both Merimbula and Bermagui. Merimbula summer tours showcase the natural beauty of the local coastline. Bermagui tours operate in the Batemans Marine Park. Over the Summer and Autumn months, Bermagui tours take you up to Montague Island (Barranguba) to visit the seal colonies, search for dolphins and other marine life. Sapphire Coastal Adventures favourite time of the year is whale watching season. From August to November, thousands of humpback whales can be viewed off Bermagui. In these nutrient-rich waters they can often be seen feeding and playing. The impact of being out on the water and watching as a massive whale surfaces is one that will stay with you for life....

This cruise departs daily from August to November. During this time the Humpback whales are on their southern migration from the Queensland coast where they have calved back to Antarctica for the summer months. Other species of whales often sighted include Southern Right, Minke, Brydes, Orcas and Blue whales. Bermagui is a wonderful place to view whales from. It is only a very short (three minute) cruise out of the Harbour and into the ocean and from this point whales can be found! In the waters of the Sapphire Coast they can be seen lateral lunge feeding, one of the few places in the world where humpbacks can be observed doing this. Mothers and their young calves also provide hours of entertainment as they play along the coastline. Tours are conducted on a 100 passenger boat, Bubbles. Bubbles is a modern and comfortable purpose-built 24-metre whale watching powered catamaran. Many other sea creatures are seen on their cruises, including Common and Bottlenose Dolphins, Australian Fur Seals, penguins, flying fish, sunfish, turtles and many species of sea birds. Complimentary Morning or Afternoon Tea is provided on the return journey.

This tour departs from Bermagui Harbour aboard their modern, comfortable, 24-metre stable vessel, Bubbles. The coastline off Bermagui is simply breathtaking and being able to showcase Baranguba (Montague Island) is a privilege. Baranguba (Montague Island) rests in the shadow of Gulaga Mountain and is located in the Batemans Marine Park, a nature lover's paradise. It is home to both Australian and New Zealand Fur Seal colonies, Little Penguin colonies, Grey Nurse Shark breeding grounds and thousands of seabirds nest here each year. If you want to see marine wildlife then Baranguba (Montague Island) is the place to go! As you journey to Montague Island, you will enjoy the breathtaking coastline and search for dolphins, seals and other wildlife along the way! When you arrive at Montague Island they will pull up for a cuppa and homebaked goodies and enjoy morning or afternoon tea with the seals and seabirds! Depending upon the weather, we will hopefully circumnavigate the Island and share stories of its importance, both culturally and ecologically, before heading back to Bermagui. Please note: at this stage this tour does not disembark onto the island but rest assured they will share plenty of information about this special place!
