Free and open to the public every weekday and selected weekends, there is always something new to see. The Banana Shire Council art collection covers a variety of mediums including pottery, print making, oil painting, pastel drawings and fibre works, plus many more. Represented are a mix of both historical and contemporary local artists as well as nationally recognised names such as Lionel and Norman Lindsay, John Shirlow, Ron McBurnie and Pro Hart to name a few. The heart of the collection is comprised of the extensive and valuable selection of works by well-known local artist Ruby Campbell, made up of pen and ink drawing, copper plate etchings, watercolours and pencil works. The collection presents artistic observations of the lives and land and industry of the region as well as themes of community and culture. The Banana Shire Council has acquired the collection through acquisition prizes at the annual Brigalow Arts Festival and other significant exhibitions and by donations from generous art lovers from across the Shire.
