Carroll, a Kamilaroi name meaning "forked tree" is a small village on the Oxley Highway, 20 kilometres east of Gunnedah, On the banks of The Namoi River which winds its way parallel to the highway, Carroll is only 10 minutes from Lake Keepit, a popular recreation destination. The surrounding area is part of the Liverpool Plains region. The district produces cotton, wheat, sorghum, sunflowers, chickpeas, faba beans, fat lambs and beef cattle. Carroll Cotton, established in September 1995, is a local cotton gin that provides growers of the upper Namoi valley cotton processing services. Coach tours welcome by previous arrangement. Facilities include Carroll General Store which is open daily for Coffee, Takeaway foods, local liqueur supplies, Fishing bait, Supagas supplies and Petrol. Carroll Sports ground is located just off the Oxley Highway and has a children playground, covered Picnic tables and Public toilets. A Fun fact: The Olympic eventing horses, Kibah Tic-Toc (noted dual Barcelona Olympic gold medals winner) and Kibah Sandstone (gold medallist in team and individual 1992, gold 2000) were bred on Kibah, a property close to the village....
